PRODUCT FEATURESThe goal of CH2O WATER-TREAT series products is to improve the quality of domestic and industrial water supplies. Some WATER-TREAT products are employed to sanitize water by killing pathogens which are a dangerous to humans and domestic animals. Other products are used to eliminate or reduce metal contaminants which are toxic or esthetically displeasing, or to protect water delivery systems from corrosion and reduce maintenance costs. APPROPRIATE APPLICATIONSCH2O WATER-TREAT products for protecting users from biological contaminants are FDA approved materials which destroy bacteria. A significant side benefit is the destruction of bacteria which are known to cause the oxidation of iron. Thus, these products assist in the prevention of metal accumulation by iron corrosion. Corrosion prevention includes the technique of raising water pH. The Langlier Stability Index predicts that upward pH adjustment reduces the potential of water to be corrosive. The CH2O WATER-TREAT series includes products which take advantage of this principle within FDA guide lines. Mineral deposition in water supply lines leads to system failure and extra maintenance costs. Several WATER-TREAT formulations are used to prevent the deposition by chelation and sequestration techniques. A side benefit is that these products create a mono molecular film on pipe walls that assists in corrosion prevention. Oxygen attack on supply water lines and equipment is a common contributor to metal loss. The loss of metal creates pits that rupture causing a loss of water and pressurization energy. It is vital that oxygen presence in supply water be controlled. After careful analysis the water may be treated by pH adjustment, inhibitor addition or both in the case of severe conditions. A treatment of CH2O WATER-TREAT sequestrant/inhibitor provides a major reduction of oxygen attack. The following chart shows the chemical reactions of oxygen with iron. The result is Hematite (commonly known as rust) which produces a reddish color in water supplies. |
The CH2O WATER-TREAT oxygen inhibitors for water supply line corrosion control create the best corrosion control products on the market. They prevent oxygen reaction with metals and remove corrosion potential to the system. They provide for exceptionally low corrosion rates and remove existing corrosion products. The method of inhibited oxygen reaction provides for uniform protection throughout the system. CH2O has developed and tested these highly effective products by progressive product evaluations since 1977. They have become established as top performing products for corrosion control. CH2O product managers have found these formulations could provide excellent protection of ferrous and copper alloys used in construction of supply and distribution systems. CH2O WATER-TREAT products are selected to reduce reaction of oxygen with ferrous alloys. The mixture of sequestrant and inhibitor properties reduces the energy potential for oxygen and iron to combine. The method is to create a mono molecular layer of suitable chemical on the metal surfaces that is strong enough to prevent physical contact by oxygen. When this occurs energy for reaction is prevented. However, a minimum amount of product is required in the water to maintain the protective film. The feature that the agent used must be ingestible without adverse effects is mandatory. The inhibitors used in CH2O WATER-TREAT products have been exhaustively tested and approved by the FDA and EPA regulatory agencies. THEY ARE FOOD GRADE. THRESHOLD TREATMENTOxygen inhibitors used in CH2O WATER-TREAT products have an important function in addition to mono molecular film formation. They sequester hardness and other metal ions found in water. These minerals cause crystalline deposits on supply lines. These ions are kept in liquid solution at THRESHOLD concentrations. The concentration ratio of sequestrant to mineral content has been observed at 1 to 3300. This is to say that one pound of sequestrant can treat 3300 pounds of metal contaminants. The economy of this method compares favorably to normal stoichiometric treatments. |
