CH2O's POSCA products are synergistic blends of synthetic dispersing polymers, sequestering agents, and chelating agents designed to protect cooling towers from mineral deposition and corrosion. The product line includes various formulas using special corrosion inhibitors, dispersants, and pH controlling agents.
The primary problems associated with open recirculating cooling systems are corrosion, mineral deposition, and biological fouling. CH2O's POSCA Cooling Tower Treatment is designed to inhibit corrosion and mineral deposition. When used with a compatible microbiocide from CH2O's BIO-BLOCK Series, it is one of the most effective treatments on the market today.
All natural water contains dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Elements (such as silica and chlorides) and airborne contaminants are present in varying quantities. When evaporation occurs in cooling systems, water impurities concentrate. Scaling occurs in the cooling tower system when impurities concentrate past the saturation point and precipitate. The precipitate deposits as scale on heat transfer surfaces, decreasing system efficiency and increasing operational costs. Ultimately, equipment failure will occur.
POSCA Cooling Tower Treatment inhibits corrosion and mineral deposition through the use of polymeric organic sequestrants, chelating additives, and various corrosion inhibitors. POSCA is designed to meet the specific needs and requirements found in diverse operating systems.
POSCA Cooling Tower Treatment inhibits the precipitation of minerals when used at substoichiometric levels. This type of treatment is commonly called threshold inhibition. Laboratory tests have shown that only one part per million of active POSCA has the ability to inhibit the precipitation of 600 ppm of calcium carbonate for at least seven days at room temperature and a pH of 8.5. The normal solubility of calcium carbonate in such a system is only 15 ppm.
